A window source shows a window of another app as it is on screen: a browser, a slide show, a chat, a calculator. It sits in the Windows group of the sidebar, and the app’s sound comes with it.
Choosing a window
Section titled “Choosing a window”Add Source › Window of Another App… lists the windows on screen, grouped by app, each with a small picture and its size. Minimised windows are not listed; open the window, then click the refresh button.
How it is captured
Section titled “How it is captured”The window is captured at its own size, up to 1920 × 1080, and follows it when it moves or changes size. Keep the window open. It may be behind other windows, but not minimised.
When the show is opened again, the window is found by its app and title. A browser window whose title changed with its tab is matched to the app’s largest window.
Capturing another app’s window needs the Screen Recording permission of macOS. See Permissions.
The app’s sound comes with the window. A browser playing a video is heard while its shot is live, with the usual source controls in Audio Routing. See Buses.
Fitting the window to the shot
Section titled “Fitting the window to the shot”A window rarely has the shape of the box it sits in. The element’s Look section in the inspector helps:
| Control | Does |
|---|---|
| Resize Window › Width or Height | changes that side of the real window so it has the box’s shape |
| Crop › Auto Crop | crops the window’s title bar and toolbar, or keeps only its page, then any flat border |
| Crop To… | Spelvin crops to what you name, such as “the chart” |
