Use Companion

Drive the Studio from a Stream Deck through Bitfocus Companion and the control API.

Put shots, Take, recording and streaming on Stream Deck buttons with Bitfocus Companion, which sends the Studio a web request per button. See The control API.

  • Install Bitfocus Companion, which is free.
  • Quit the Elgato Stream Deck app: Companion needs the deck to itself.
  • Give the shots you want on buttons a name of their own.
  • For Companion on another machine, copy the token from Settings › This Mac › Remote.

In Companion, add the connection Generic: HTTP Requests. It needs no base address.

For each button, add the action HTTP Request with the method POST and one of these addresses. Replace <mac> with the Mac running Live Producer, or localhost when Companion runs on the same Mac.

Button Address
Shot to preview http://<mac>:8800/shots/Wide%20Shot/preview
Shot straight to live http://<mac>:8800/shots/Wide%20Shot/live
Lower third on http://<mac>:8800/shots/Lower%20third/live
Lower third off http://<mac>:8800/layers/Graphics/clear
Take http://<mac>:8800/take
Next part http://<mac>:8800/rundown/next
Record start, stop http://<mac>:8800/record/start, /record/stop
Fade to Black http://<mac>:8800/ftb
Captions on or off http://<mac>:8800/captions/toggle

Write a space as %20. Capitalisation does not matter.

When Companion runs on another machine, add ?t=<token> to each address, or send the token as the X-Live-Producer-Token header. Companion on the same Mac needs none.

The Port, Status and Token rows of Settings › This Mac › Remote, with Copy beside the token (a sample token in this picture)

Press a button. The shot goes to the preview or the program in the Studio. A name that does not exist returns an error listing the valid names; check the shot’s name in the Studio.

For lit buttons, Companion can read GET /state with its HTTP GET action and set a variable from it.
